Music on a Friday

Music sometimes
Takes me back to that beach
Where we used to party
As kids
Playing in the sand
Listening to music
Playing with our friends
Eating freshly caught fish
With friends
Far away
From the crowds
That cities have become
Or always were
Back in the day
We used to play
On far away beach shores
But now we lock ourselves
in the cities
far away from the beach
and play
Xbox, and Wii
Not like we played
As kids

Conversations between men

One can only imagine
What it is really like
To talk to another man
Who is in love with another woman
There was a man who always
Rode the train with me
Alone

Then one day I saw him
With a woman friend
You could see the difference in his walk
As if he were a new man
He walked as though he would not hesitate
To walk the path into bliss
And I wondered what advice
He would have for the other men
Riding the train with him
Alone

Health Jamaican style - the joy of relaxing

We live in a society where it is almost a sin to not be doing something. Pressured to be doing, we find ourselves having to be doing some form of physical activity or being active participants, and where to relax is to be "lazy". What is really wrong in relaxing and taking it easy. Even God rested after creating the heavens and the Earth as it said in the bible - whether we believe is another matter.
The fact is that if higher beings can rest, why can't we rest sometimes. If you feel whooped - take a nap. Its your bed you paid for it so use it freely. To nap or rest is not to be lazy, but its an opportunity to rest and rejuvenate. A well rested mind and body and spirit will be better able to make good decisions when the time is right.

Health Jamaican style - balance in your life

Balance is important to our well being. There are 24 hours in every day, and we should strive to devote as much time to resting as we do to working. There are some who can work 23 hours a day and thrive on 1 hours sleep. But for the majority we should strive for balance in our lives - social, work, spiritual or to keep a balance in our body, mind and soul.

Health Jamaican style - your skin

They say beauty is only skin deep.. but do we take care of our skin. We can start simply by making sure we drink the recomended amount of water a day - 8 glasses. We can also make sure that there is moisture in the air. If living in cold country ensure you have a working humidifier or get one for your bedroom. Remember we spend a lot of our day in bed so the air should be moist enough so that we can breath properly. The air can be dried out with hot air blown through vents or hot water piped heating.
Think of baking, if there is no moisture to that chicken in the oven - it will dry up. There are good skin moisture products that are not necessarily expensive.

In the middle of winter

I still remember
That day in September
When the leaves were still brown
And the trees were naked
All around
There could be nothing
More warming
Than for me to imagine
You there sitting
Licking your ice cream

On a lake in the middle of the woods

I remember the first time I saw my reflection
On a lake
In the middle of the woods
The water was calm and inviting
And I wondered why boats would
Choose to disturb this tranquil space
Where eagles flocked in droves
And build nests in tall trees by the lakeshore
But that day I took a moment
To look at my reflection
On a lake in the middle of the woods

The tower of Love

It was on a day when I felt alone

But in one moment

I had felt her presence

Like a beacon calling me

And my heart was glad

Because I knew then that

I was not alone

And there were others like me

Others who heard her calling

She called one

Then another

We were unknown to each other

But we all felt her calling

Mere mortals

Beckoned by the tower of love
